Lower House sits in its own romantic and self-contained 7-acre valley, made up of wood and copse, little fields, orchard, stream, pond and garden. As you cross the Dulas Brook, via our small stone bridge to come up our drive, you pass from England into Wales. We are in the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Offa's Dyke Path runs behind the house.

We have been working on the house and garden for the 22 years that we have lived here. The rambling house is largely 18th century with older parts. The exceptional garden, open by appointment, has been featured in The Telegraph (Sept 2004), 25 Beautiful Gardens (2004) and Gardens Illustrated (Sep 2007). The house was featured in Country Living in 1993 and Period Living magazine in May 2007. Recent projects have been the restoration of a large pond and the development of paths and planting in the wild garden. Nearer the house, we have have two formal pools by our conservatory, a large terrace with exotic planting, traditional vegetable garden, overflowing borders and Box Garden with topiary. Guests are welcome to use the garden. There are many areas for them to enjoy and get lost in. There are seats throughout the garden, perfect for visitors and rarely used by us!

After many years of opening for the National Garden Scheme we have decided to withdraw from the scheme. However, the garden will still be open by appointment between April and October.

"An absolutely wonderful house, delicious food and exemplary hosts. We have had a magical two days here and are sure to return. It reminded us of the house in Howard's End."
